During the Great Depression, Herbert Hoover promised the American people a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage if he ere elected president. More common than chickens and cars in the 1930s were patchwork quilts. As people faced the economic hardships of the day, they adopted a mantra of ?use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!? The simple Nine Patch block was often employed as fabric scraps were transformed into quilts. Here the Nine Patch gets a new lease on life, and a whole new look, when some of the patches are made from half-square triangles.
